Acre expands the State Finance Department's authority in operating the state lottery.
The governor of Acre, Mailza Assis, sanctioned this Monday (July 28) Law No. 4.822, which transfers to the State Finance Secretariat (Sefaz) the responsibility for the regulation and supervision of the betting market and lottery services in the state.
The regulation amends Complementary Law No. 419, of December 15, 2022, which defines the basic structure of the Acrean Executive Branch. With the change, the State Finance Secretariat (Sefaz) will concentrate responsibilities that include regulating, authorizing, granting licenses, accrediting operators, overseeing the operation of lottery modalities, and applying administrative sanctions.
Unanimous approval in Aleac
The bill, authored by the Executive Branch, was processed under urgent procedure in the Legislative Assembly of the State of Acre (Aleac). Parliamentarians unanimously approved the proposal in an extraordinary virtual session held on Wednesday (July 22), a week before its enactment. The law was published in the State Official Gazette (DOE) this Wednesday (July 29).
Sefaz takes control of the sector.
Law No. 4.822 formally inserts a new clause into the text of the state's administrative structure, defining the department's responsibilities regarding gambling. The article now expressly provides for the management of "lottery services, including regulation, standardization, authorization, permission, concession, accreditation, inspection, and the application of administrative sanctions related to the operation of lottery and betting modalities."
The initiative follows the ongoing movement to regulate the betting sector in the country and defines, at the state level, which body will be responsible for conducting this public policy in Acre.
