State Representative Eduardo Ribeiro (PSD) presented a proposal to create a state lottery in Acre during a session at the Legislative Assembly (Aleac) on Wednesday (29). The initiative seeks to generate additional resources for areas such as sports, youth, health and social assistance without increasing taxes for the population of Acre.

The proposal is based on a 2020 decision by the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF), which recognized the states' authority to establish their own lottery games. Since then, several states have developed similar systems.

During his presentation at Aleac in Rio Branco, Ribeiro cited the example of São Paulo, where revenue from the state lottery reaches approximately R$ 3,4 billion annually, which is directed towards priority investments.

"The State needs to open its eyes to this opportunity. It's a way to generate more resources, to encourage public policies without raising taxes, which is the last thing we want," said Eduardo Ribeiro when presenting the proposal.

The legislator highlighted that the initiative could represent "financial autonomy" for Acre, allowing direct investments in areas considered priorities.

The text presented does not yet detail specific aspects of the lottery's operational structure, betting modalities, or exact percentages of resource distribution among the beneficiary areas.

The proposal will now undergo feasibility studies and debates in the Legislative Assembly of Acre (Aleac). Regulation will require definitions regarding the legal structure, betting modalities, oversight mechanisms, and the allocation of funds raised.

The state of Acre would be the main beneficiary of the initiative, gaining a new source of revenue. The population of Acre would also benefit from increased investments in social areas, as the congressman explained.
