ANJL expresses concern about operation against sports betting companies.

The Federal Revenue Service and the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, through the National Gaeco, launched Operation Shadow Game this Friday (August 28) against a business group in the sports betting sector operating in Pernambuco.

In a statement released the same day, the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) stated that it was "closely monitoring" the information released by the Federal Revenue Service regarding the operation. The organization expressed concern about the risk that investigations in the betting sector could result in violations of constitutional guarantees.

"ANJL views with concern any situations, within the scope of investigations and proceedings related to the betting sector, that may result in violations of the constitutional principles of presumption of innocence, due process, and the right to a full defense," the association stated.

ANJL declared its confidence in the actions of the competent institutions and the Judiciary, provided that there is “due observance of constitutional guarantees and the right to defense of the parties involved.” The entity reaffirmed the presumption of innocence of operators in the sector and defended that any liabilities be investigated “within the scope of the appropriate procedures, respecting due process of law and the decisions of the competent authorities.”

ANJL also reaffirms its confidence in the presumption of innocence of all operators and understands that any potential liabilities should be investigated within the framework of the appropriate procedures, respecting due process and the decisions of the competent authorities.
