ANJL holds meeting to gather contributions for the public consultation by the Treasury Department that redefines criteria for authorizing betting houses.

The National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) held a meeting this Friday (31) to discuss the main points of the draft ordinance that will replace Ordinance SPA/MF No. 827/2024, which established the rules and criteria for granting authorization from the Ministry of Finance to betting houses.
At the meeting, which was attended by a large number of members, the contributions received by ANJL up to the previous day were discussed, relating both to suggestions for changes and to points of attention and impacts identified by the companies.
According to the Treasury, the changes are based on three main pillars: increasing the rigor of documentation in the fight against money laundering; anticipating the assessment of the economic backing and origin of the betting house's capital; and exhaustively detailing the rules to reduce information asymmetries.
At the meeting, lawyers Hygo Carvalho, Pedro Prates, Rafael Fernandes, and Alice Ravazzoli, who are part of ANJL's legal team, presented participants with a detailed analysis of the technical contributions. As a result, the curatorial team indicated:
⇒ The themes;
⇒ The impacts for operators;
⇒ The level of criticality
According to the president of ANJL, Plínio Lemos Jorge, the curation carried out by the association will be fundamental to addressing the sensitive issues for the sector that are in the draft proposed by the regulatory body and to jointly propose the changes necessary for the proper functioning of the betting market in Brazil.
“Let’s discuss all of this together. Together, we are stronger. One person’s pain is another’s pain. We will address issues relevant to everyone, so that everyone can join this movement,” declared Plínio.
In the coming weeks, ANJL will hold further meetings to develop suggestions that will be jointly submitted to SPA. The public consultation will be open to the entire society until September 9th.
