At least 19% of internet users in Brazil placed online bets in 2025, according to research.

In 2025, 85% of Brazilians will have internet access, representing 157 million people, according to the ICT Households survey. And 19% of internet users say they made some kind of online bet in the three months prior to the survey.
The data was published this Tuesday (9) by the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br).
Conducted for 20 years, the ICT Households survey maps the use of information and communication technologies and the internet by people over 10 years old. This edition conducted interviews in 27.177 households and surveyed 24.535 people from March to August 2025.
This was the first edition of the survey that asked about online gambling. It found that men gamble more than women.
Among internet users who placed bets in the three months prior to the survey, 25% are men and 14% are women.
She also showed that:
⇒ 8% of Brazilians placed bets at online casinos;
⇒ 7% paid to participate in a digital raffle or lottery;
⇒ 7% placed sports bets on websites or apps (bets) – this group has the biggest difference between women and men: among women, the rate is 2%, and among men, it reaches 12%;
7% placed bets on the federal lottery.

“What we are seeing is a rather alarming number: we have around 30 million people over the age of 10 who have already placed some kind of online bet,” stated Renata Mielli, coordinator of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br), which released the survey.
According to her, this data and others collected in the research reinforce the need to create regulatory mechanisms and expand digital education for Brazilians about the risks of online games and betting.
Internet access has also grown within homes: 86% of households have internet access, compared to 51% ten years ago.
Off the internet: according to research, Brazil has 28 million non-internet users. This group mainly includes people who have only completed elementary school, who identify as Black or mixed-race, and who are 60 years of age or older.
The research also revealed that:
⇒ 75% of Brazilians made payments or transfers via PIX;
39% ran out of mobile data at least once in the three months prior to the survey;
56% accessed or asked someone to access Gov.br to perform some public service.
⇒ 32% used some type of generative AI tool. Of these, 84% used it for personal use, 53% for school studies, and 50% for professional activities.
What is Generative Artificial Intelligence (or GenAI): It's the technology that gave rise to ChatGPT. Besides conversing with the user and answering general questions, this AI creates content, images, videos, and music. ( With information from g1 Tecnologia )
