Colombian influencer Yeferson Cossío won over US$1,38 million by betting on Colombia's victory over Uzbekistan in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup. He wagered US$1 million, equivalent to just over R$5 million, on an online betting platform.

According to information published by O Globo, Cossío watched the Mexico match and broadcast the tension almost in real time through Instagram stories . The projected return from the platform in case of a Colombian victory was US$1,38 million, equivalent to R$6,75 million, generating a net profit of US$380, or about R$2 million.

Colombia defeated Uzbekistan 3-1. Daniel Muñoz opened the scoring in the 40th minute of the first half. In the second half, the Uzbeks equalized, threatening the influencer's investment. Luis Díaz put Colombia back in front in the 66th minute, and Jaminton Campaz confirmed the victory in the final minutes.

“Gooooool, I almost fainted!”, Cossío told his followers right after the first goal, when the system was already registering a temporary profit of US$70.000. Later, seeing the favorable score solidify, he celebrated: “My savings are back!”

Donation contingent on likes

Before the match, the influencer promised to donate 200 million Colombian pesos, approximately R$300,000, to foundations dedicated to the care of abandoned dogs, with one condition: the post needed to reach one million likes within a week. With the victory secured on the field, Cossío reaffirmed his commitment, but warned that the social media goal had not yet been reached. The deadline for followers to interact with and share the original post is Friday (June 25th).

The payout for the bet is not immediate either. Due to the financial volume involved, the platform needs to subject the transaction to internal audit and security validation processes before authorizing the withdrawal, a procedure described as standard industry practice for high-value bets.

Cossío had already made headlines in 2023 when he underwent surgery to lengthen his legs by 10 centimeters. His bet on the 2026 World Cup is described as one of the most expensive and lucrative in the history of Colombian content creators.
