The director of citizenship and conduct supervision at the Central Bank (BC), Izabela Correa, stated that financial institutions display advertisements for sports betting sites, the so-called "bets," on their apps and digital pages. The statement was made this Tuesday (September 1st) during the Zetta Summit 2026 event, held in Brasília.

The position, reported by Valor, reinforces the speech given earlier at the same event by the director of supervision at the Central Bank, Ailton de Aquino. The Central Bank is studying measures to expand consumer protection in the face of growing debt related to gambling.

Correa argued that the National Financial System (SFN) needs to assume responsibility both in the supply of products and in the financial education of consumers. According to the director, there are "behavioral biases" in the digital environment that require attention from the monetary authority.

“Financial institutions should consider, for example, aspects of preventing over-indebtedness. This establishes that it is inconsistent for a financial institution to have an app and, on the app's home page, be offering and advertising a betting site, for example,” said Correa.

The director stated that sports betting represents a higher risk of default for consumers. The Central Bank reported that it has been making progress in studies and internal discussions to publish protection regulations in the digital environment in the coming months.
