Better Gambling Forum and SBC announce strategic partnership.

The Better Gambling Forum (BGF) and SBC Events & Media have signed a strategic partnership to promote a practical and scalable approach to player protection in North America and beyond.
The partnership will leverage SBC's events and media platforms to drive engagement with BGF's Responsible Gaming 3.0 framework, focusing on translating policies and research into practical implementation for operators, regulators, and healthcare systems.
BGF President Shawn Fluharty commented: “The Better Gambling Forum focuses on turning evidence into action. Through our Responsible Gambling 3.0 framework and independent scientific oversight, we are helping policymakers, regulators, and operators move beyond good intentions and pursue solutions that truly reduce harm.”
“The next phase of our work focuses on scale and consistency – creating practical, evidence-based standards that underpin a safer and more sustainable gambling ecosystem for players, the industry, and society at large. We are excited to work with the SBC to expand our reach at their Americas Summit and other events.”
As part of the collaboration, BGF and SBC will host an expert panel at the SBC Summit Americas (June 9-11) to examine how to build a modern public health response to gambling addiction, while also promoting a healthier interaction with the gaming industry.
The session will bring together leaders from the fields of public health, public policy, industry, and digital platforms, including:
⇒ Patrick J. Kennedy, former US congressman; national leader in mental health and
addiction;
⇒ Dr. Nathan Carroll, National Medical Director of InSite Health; Member of the Council on Digital Health, Innovation and Technology of the American Psychiatric Association;
⇒ Toby Ewing, from Stanford School of Medicine; Consultant at Brain Capital; and former Executive Director of the California Commission on Oversight and Accountability for Mental Health Services;
⇒ Paul Pellizzari, Vice President of Global Social Responsibility at Hard Rock International;
⇒ Dr. Eraka Bath, Professor of Psychiatry, David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA.
The Summit session is the first in a series of discussions at SBC events and media channels – such as the Player Protection Hub – aimed at promoting and internationalizing the BGF's agenda of building practical legislative and operational frameworks to foster a truly safe and sustainable gambling ecosystem.
SBC Director General Andrew McCarron said: “In recent years, we have made great progress with the online Player Protection Hub and the Player Protection Symposia in Lisbon, Florida and Toronto. We hope that these channels can boost the work of the BGF and that the SBC can play its part in promoting real, positive and practical progress for an industry that we all know is extremely innovative – let's ensure that it is also safe and sustainable for everyone.”
The panel – and future discussions – will explore practical pathways for the future, including early policies, intervention models, integration with broader behavioral health systems, the role of digital platforms in shaping behaviors, and how the industry can align around consistent standards for the protection of gamers.
It is important to highlight that the work of the BGF is being overseen by an independent Scientific Oversight Committee, composed of eight academics with expertise in gambling from around the world. The committee's objective is to ensure that the work of the BGF is firmly grounded in evidence, ethics, and best practices.
The panel is part of a robust program of content on responsible gaming at the SBC Summit Americas, with a symposium dedicated to player protection on the main stage, featuring some of the most important and influential thought leaders from North and South America.
