Gail Wood, a 54-year-old fire department control operator, won approximately R$1 million in the People's Postcode Lottery on the same day she underwent a hysterectomy to treat cancer. The British woman received news of the prize via voicemail while recovering from the surgical procedure in a hospital in northern England.

The amount won will be paid in monthly installments of £12 over a year, totaling approximately £144 at the end of the period. Gail received the notification shortly after sending messages to family and friends informing them about the completion of the surgery.

The hysterectomy performed on Gail was considered successful, as the cancer had neither grown nor spread. The operation was considered delicate, which caused concern for the patient before the medical intervention.

The day after being discharged from the hospital, lottery representatives visited Gail's home to formally deliver the prize.

With the prize money, Gail plans to retire when she turns 55 in September, the age at which she can leave her job, although this may impact the value of her pension. The money will also be used for home improvements, such as replacing the front door and renovating the driveway.

The couple is also considering taking a family trip and evaluating the purchase or exchange of a motorhome , since they already own one and often use it for family activities.

After receiving the voicemail informing her of the award, Gail made sure to call her husband to share the news. Jason Wood, 56, a retired firefighter, also celebrated the award with his wife.

During the communication with the lottery, it was mentioned that Gail had been participating in the drawings since 2009 and that part of her contributions had been destined for charities supported by the program.
