The country's capital will host debates on the betting market.

Far beyond the proposal of a financial or tax debate, the national fixed-odds betting market, authorized by law to operate since 2018, has also come to occupy a permanent space in the country's major institutional discussions. With the regulation, which came from the creation of law 14.790, in 2023, this sector stimulates discussions on technological development, legal security, consumer protection, sporting integrity and investment generation for Brazil, reports Conteúdo de Marca in O Globo this Sunday (31).
In this context, on June 2nd and 3rd, Brasília will be the stage and center of discussions about the future of the regulated fixed-odds betting market in the country. The BiS Brasília 2026 event, which is part of the global ecosystem of SiGMA World, one of the leading international platforms for B2B business and events focused on the gaming and betting sector, will take place, for the second consecutive year, at the Royal Tulip Brasília Alvorada.
The institutional meeting will bring together public authorities, experts, regulators, and representatives from the private sector. The federal capital thus assumes a strategic role in the debate on governance, sustainability, and the development of the betting industry in the country. The maturity of this market depends on the ability to establish a technical and transparent dialogue between the different agents of society.
Carlos Cardama, co-founder of BiS SiGMA South America, the event organizer, believes that BiS Brasília 2026 will be very timely, since, with the regulation, the country is experiencing a special moment to structure a solid market aligned with international best practices.
"Brazil has the opportunity to build one of the most relevant regulated markets in the world. To achieve this, it is essential to bring together experts, authorities, companies, and institutional representatives in an environment of responsible and technical dialogue. The sustainable development of the industry depends directly on this collective construction," says Cardama.
Regulation opens up space
This broader debate about the economic and social impacts of the fixed-odds betting market on society is one of the proposals of BiS Brasília 2026. With regulation, companies are now required to demonstrate increasingly aligned performance with international best practices in operational monitoring, data transparency, and consumer protection. Combating the manipulation of sports results, financial monitoring, and the creation of tools focused on user security have become fundamental pillars for this betting industry.
This scenario places Brazil in a prominent position within the global iGaming system and attracts international companies. According to Flavio Figueiredo, managing director of BiS Sigma South America, the institutional strengthening of the sector depends directly on building a regulated environment based on trust, accountability, and governance.
— The sustainable growth of the sector necessarily depends on the adoption of robust compliance, integrity, and social responsibility practices. Brazil has an important opportunity to structure a modern, transparent market aligned with international standards — Figueiredo points out.
One of the main concerns of the regulated market is the prevention of money laundering. According to lawyer Udo Seckelmann, head of the Gambling & Crypto department at the law firm Bichara e Motta Advogados and a panelist at BiS Brasília 2026, combating the illegal market is fundamental to dealing with this type of crime.
"It is precisely outside the regulated environment that there is a greater risk of betting being used for illicit practices, including money laundering. Illegal betting operates without state supervision and without adequate control mechanisms, which significantly increases the risks for consumers and for the financial system itself," said Udo Seckelmann.
Regulatory evolution has also increased attention to the communication and marketing of brands in the sector. The growing presence of betting platforms in Brazilian sports, entertainment, and media has brought new discussions about responsible advertising and consumer protection.
The trend is for the national market to follow international models capable of reconciling economic freedom, innovation, and institutional responsibility, establishing clearer rules for communication, operation, and relationship with the public.
The profile of bettors
In Brazil, recent data provided by the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) indicates that there are 29,4 million bettors. Understanding the profile of this consumer has become a strategic priority for companies, specialists, and regulatory bodies. Research conducted by the Brazilian Investor X-Ray, released on May 23rd, shows that players are mostly young men, with an average age of 35, and higher family incomes, exceeding R$ 5 per month.
Based on these and other data, the national market is experiencing an accelerated process of professionalization, driven both by advances in regulation and by the need to develop more sophisticated operations in technology, digital security, and data analysis.
According to Alessandro Valente, president of BiS SiGMA South America, the country is going through an important moment of structural maturation.
Brazil has come to occupy a strategic position within the global betting and digital entertainment industry. The market has been evolving rapidly in technology, governance, and responsibility. Today there is a much greater concern in understanding the Brazilian consumer and in building a sustainable long-term environment — says Valente.
