Sports betting companies operating in Brazil fear a flood of lawsuits filed by soccer players. Preliminary injunctions already obtained by athletes such as Ricardo Bueno, Guilherme Marques, Gabriel Barros, and Gustavo Vilar affect platforms like Betano, Bet365, Verabet, and Cassino Bet, prohibiting the offering of markets linked to the individual performance of players.

According to Guilherme Amado's column on AmadoMundo, the industry is apprehensive that these decisions will become jurisprudence and shut down the individual betting segment. The prohibited markets include items such as the number of goals, cards, and fouls.

The legal argument supporting the lawsuits was developed by lawyer Marcelo Robalinho. He argues that the practice exploits the athlete's image as a commercial product without consent and also exposes the professionals to demands and threats from frustrated bettors on social media.

Non-compliance with orders and next steps

The problem has gained an additional layer; the operators have not complied with orders to remove the names from the websites. The resistance follows guidelines from the international headquarters of the platforms.

Therefore, the athletes' defense team is working to impose daily fines for non-compliance and is considering requesting a block on access to the platforms in the country.
