On his day off, Neymar Jr. loses R$ 35 in a poker tournament in São Paulo.

Neymar Jr spent R$ 35,000 on entries and left empty-handed at the BSOP (Brazilian Poker Series) Winter tournament in São Paulo this Wednesday (July 22). The Santos striker was eliminated from both tournaments he competed in at the event, held at the WTC Sheraton.

The participation took place during a break granted by the club. Neymar first registered for the decisive phase of the Invitational and then for the 1-Day High Roller, accumulating two negative results on the same day.

Eliminations and expenses

In the Invitational, the number 10 player paid R$ 25 for entry and was eliminated after about two hours of competition. He finished outside the top 27 positions that guaranteed prize money and received no amount.

Undeterred, the player invested another R$ 10 in the 1-Day High Roller. At the table, he faced Deickson Abril, from Ribeirão Preto (SP), and even managed to win a hand, but ended up being eliminated again. Abril became the tournament champion and won R$ 245.

This is the second time Neymar has lost a poker tournament since Brazil's elimination from the World Cup. On the previous occasion, a week after the defeat to Norway, he was spotted at a tournament in Las Vegas.

Reaction to criticism

On Thursday (July 23), Neymar returned to Vila Belmiro and resumed training with the Santos squad. During a break in training, he posted a video on social media responding to those who criticized him for attending a poker tournament on his day off.

“A lot of people were talking about me playing poker. […] I was on my day off! Now I'm getting ready for training and I want to ask you: can I train or are you going to keep criticizing me too? Mind your own business,” the striker said in the video.

Santos will face Chapecoense on Saturday (July 25th) at 6:30 PM, and the BSOP Winter event continues at the WTC Sheraton until July 30th.
