Emiliano Martínez is being investigated by the English Football Association for promoting a betting website.

The English Football Association (FA) is investigating Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez for allegedly violating rules by promoting a sports betting platform. The Argentine goalkeeper acts as an ambassador for a gambling website based in Argentina. The report was published by the portal “ The Athletic ” this Friday (6).

The company “ Bplay ” announced Martínez as an official brand representative over a year and a half ago. Material published on the company's website in June 2024 presents the 33-year-old player as an ambassador and mentions a commercial starring the athlete.

In October 2025, the platform launched an advertising campaign featuring Martínez and his brother, Alejandro, a professional racing driver. In the campaign, the two appear wearing each other's professional uniforms. The goalkeeper has a prominent presence on the " Bplay " website and social media. The company was founded in 2020 and operates in a regulated manner in Argentina.

FA rules prohibit the promotion of betting.

The English governing body's regulations state that "an individual participant, when acting in a personal capacity, may not advertise or promote any betting activity prohibited by Rules E8.1, E8.2 or E8.4". The aforementioned rules prohibit players from placing bets on matches, leagues or competitions in which they participate or over which they may exert influence.

Martínez's case may fall under this prohibition. The " Bplay " website offers odds for betting on tournaments played by Aston Villa. The platform provides odds for the Premier League , the FA Cup, and the Europa League . These three English competitions are among the four the club is playing in this season.

The site also offers betting on competitions in Argentina and Europe.
