Governor of Minas Gerais appoints former Attorney General's Office inspector Luciano França to head the Minas Gerais Lottery.

Governor Mateus Simões (PSD) appointed Luciano França da Silveira Jr. as the general director of the Minas Gerais Lottery. The appointment was published this Thursday (June 4th) in the State Official Gazette. Luciano will replace Onésimo Diniz Moreira, who is leaving the position at his own request because he disagreed with the biases within the LEMG, as stated in his resignation letter.

The new director-general is retired from the Public Prosecutor's Office of Minas Gerais. Luciano França served in the General Inspectorate of the MPMG between 2019 and 2021. Currently, he maintains professional activities in law practice.

The state government also appointed Vanderlei Daniel da Silva as the deputy director-general of the Minas Gerais Lottery. Vanderlei is a career auditor at the State Comptroller General's Office. Antônio Celso Alves Pereira Filho, who previously held the position of deputy director-general of the agency, was transferred to the Operational Directorate of the Minas Gerais State Lottery.

Onésimo Diniz Moreira led the Minas Gerais State Lottery between December 2024 and June 2026. Before assuming the leadership of the agency, he served as technical director of the Institute for the Development of Northern and Northeastern Minas Gerais.

Onésimo's nomination for the Minas Gerais Lottery was made by then-governor Romeu Zema. His name was approved by the Minas Gerais Legislative Assembly. He took office on December 4, 2024.

At the start of his administration, Onésimo announced goals to modernize the processes of the century-old institution. Among these objectives were expanding the agency's revenue and increasing the allocation of resources to state social programs in the areas of health, education, and infrastructure.

In January 2025, Onésimo traveled to Barcelona to participate in an event aimed at professionals in the gaming and betting market. The trip sought to absorb innovations for application in the Minas Gerais market.

During Onésimo's administration, the Minas Gerais Lottery participated in a working group coordinated by the Ministry of Finance. The initiative aimed to formulate the National Betting System – SINAPO, which seeks to establish minimum security and responsible gaming rules for state lotteries throughout the country.
