Government prepares new restrictions on betting advertising, says Durigan.

The Ministry of Finance announced this Monday (June 29th) that the federal government intends to tighten advertising rules for sports betting companies in the country. Minister Dário Durigan confirmed that new measures will be adopted to reduce the reach of advertisements for these so-called betting sites.

According to Correio Braziliense, Durigan indicated that the intention is to limit the dissemination of betting services through administrative acts, based on existing powers of the Executive branch. If necessary, the government is also considering issuing a provisional measure (MP) to reinforce the restrictions.

The statement was made during the presentation of the "Desenrola Adimplentes" program at the Palácio do Planalto. The minister reaffirmed that the federal administration will continue to adopt initiatives to reduce the population's exposure to advertising from betting platforms.

Unraveling Debts and Access to Credit

The "Desenrola Adimplentes" program aims to expand access to credit for informal workers, private sector employees, and students linked to the Student Financing Fund (Fies). The main measure is the creation of a loan renegotiation option with interest rates as low as 1,99% per month, focusing on debt regularization.

The package also includes changes to the rules for private payroll-deducted loans and the creation of Fies Empreendedor, a financing line aimed at students who keep their Fies payments up to date and wish to invest in entrepreneurial activities. The government will allocate approximately R$ 4 billion from the National Treasury to enable the new credit lines, as reported by the economic team.

Blocked on betting platforms

Those who join the Desenrola Adimplentes program will have their registration blocked on all betting platforms for six months. This restriction aims to prevent the renegotiated credit from being used for betting and to facilitate the financial recovery of program participants.

The details of the specific measures restricting betting advertising have not yet been released by the government. However, the Ministry of Finance has indicated that control over advertising in the sector will be expanded; the topic has been the subject of debate regarding its impact on consumption and consumer debt.
