Government to regulate betting design to limit impulse buying.

The Brazilian Prize and Betting Secretariat (SPA) has already defined the next step in the regulation of betting in Brazil: restricting platform design mechanisms that induce impulse betting. Among the targets are accelerated rounds and the automatic bet repetition function, which eliminate the need for any user action.

The information was published by Guilherme Amado's column on AmadoMundo. According to the text, the federal government wants to intervene directly in the configuration of the games, but the measure depends on a prior step: regulating the commercial relations between betting houses and foreign technology providers.

The obstacle is structural. Betting platforms don't develop their own games; they rent systems from global giants in the industry. Any change to the game mechanics directly affects these external providers, which requires that rules be established first at the level of business-to-business relationships.

Regulatory gap already identified

The lack of rules regarding addictive design in betting platforms had already been identified as a problem. A recent study by FGV Ibre identified this gap as "structural" in Brazilian regulation, and experts have criticized the continued existence of these tools without restriction.

Currently, mechanisms that encourage impulse betting remain permitted. SPA, the body responsible for overseeing betting in the country, already has a defined roadmap: first, it regulates relationships with technology developers, then it moves on to configuring the games themselves.
