Elderly woman wins $50,000 in the lottery for the second time in the same year in Maryland.

A resident of Germantown, Maryland, won $50,000 for the second time this year in the state lottery, the Maryland Lottery. The prize was won in the Pick 5 game, with the numbers 1-2-9-1-2. The woman collected the money on Tuesday (September 8).
The total accumulated in the two prizes reaches US$100. The retired postal worker, who chose to remain anonymous, also regularly plays Pick 3 and Pick 4. The first prize of US$50 was won in April.
The winning ticket cost US$14 and was purchased by the winner's grandson, who buys the week's tickets for her every Tuesday. The bet covered the midday and evening draws between August 18 and 25, and the winning numbers came out on August 23. The grandmother only found out the result that night when she checked the tickets.
The honor roll and "karma"
Hours before learning she had won, she and her grandson stopped at a produce stand that operates on an honor system, without attendants, where customers leave their payment in a box. She noticed that other people were taking products without paying.
“The owners rely on people’s honesty, and they put out a box so that everyone could pay what they wanted,” she told representatives from the Maryland Lottery. “But people were there taking what they wanted without leaving a penny in the box.”
Even so, she went to the cashier and left the correct amount for the items she had taken. When she checked the tickets later, she couldn't contain her surprise. "I thought, 'My God, I got all five digits right again,'" she recalled. Then she called her grandson to tell him the news.
The young man credited his victory to his grandmother's behavior. "I told her it was karma that we won, because we paid for our items at the farmer's stall," he said.
Plans with the prize
The money will be used for home renovations and savings. A portion will be set aside for her grandson, who buys the tickets weekly. For the winner, however, the financial value is secondary. "It's not about the money," she stated. "It's about the victory."
The winning ticket was sold at Town Center Sunoco on Germantown Road. The establishment will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
