Brazilian federal lotteries saw an 8,3% growth from January to September 2021.

The Secretariat for Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery (Secap) of the Ministry of Economy (ME) released, this Thursday (4), the 2nd edition of the bulletin “Overview of the Brazilian Lottery Market”. The publication indicates a constant growth in lottery revenue in the country from 2017 to 2020, in addition to projecting growth expectations for the full year of 2021, with a forecast that revenue will exceed R$ 18 billion.

When comparing nominal revenue from January to September 2021, an 8,3% increase was recorded compared to the same period in 2020, and a 28,6% increase compared to 2017. According to the Undersecretary of Prizes and Raffles at the Ministry of Economy, Waldir Marques, the numbers indicate the solidity of the national lottery market despite the difficulties faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the bulletin, the main lottery products in the country today are: Lotofácil (36,7%), Mega-Sena (30,7%) and Quina (19,9%), with Lotofácil having surpassed Mega-Sena as the best-selling lottery in Brazil. The publication attributes the change to the fact that Lotofácil became a daily draw starting in August 2020 and to the low accumulation of prizes in regular Mega-Sena draws in recent months.

The publication also points to a 14% increase in transfers for the financing of public policies obtained from lotteries, in the period from January to September 2021, which exceeded R$ 4,64 billion. During this period, the main social transfers were the portions destined for social security (46,8%), the National Public Security Fund – FNSP (25,2%) and education with 10,6%. Education also registered a 110% increase in resources due to the reversal of one of the unclaimed Mega da Virada 2020 prizes.
