A report on the Brazilian TV show Fantástico, broadcast on January 26, 2020, revealed interesting facts about lotteries, such as the same number appearing in two consecutive draws.

Many people who bet on lotteries in Brazil and around the world often question the fairness of the drawing processes, especially when the winning numbers favor a particular group or are a huge coincidence.

Recently, a certain group of employees linked to a political party won a Brazilian lottery in a unique way, and many people questioned the possibility of fraud. None of this, in fact, is a coincidence that a lottery, a game of chance, can produce.

For example, in the Mega-Sena lottery draw number 1679, on February 18, 2015, an unusual result caught the attention of the players: 01, 02, 27, 28, 46, 47.

The biggest controversy in the Mega-Sena lottery occurred in draws 308 and 309, on October 27th and 31st, 2001, respectively, where 5 of the winning numbers were repeated in the subsequent draw. In draw 308 the winning numbers were: 04, 11, 25, 29, 39, 55 and in draw 309 they were: 04, 11, 25, 39, 50, 55!

Such an unusual coincidence that the chances of it happening would be almost incalculable. Better for those who bet using the numbers from the previous lottery (yes, there are people who bet on this). Since 5 numbers were repeated, many bets correctly guessed these 5 numbers. 3001 people guessed five numbers correctly, which had a payout of a meager R$ 122,53, and 2997 people guessed four numbers correctly, which paid R$ 122,69. In other words, the four-number prize paid more than the five-number prize for the first and only time in the history of the Mega-Sena lottery!
