The Ministry of Finance registered 153 requests for self-exclusion from betting in 20 days.

The Ministry of Finance recorded 153 requests for self-exclusion from sports betting platforms in Brazil. The requests were registered during the first 20 days of operation of the system, implemented at the end of 2025. The average number of requests reached five per minute during this initial period.

The blocking mechanism prevents users from accessing all 182 betting brands authorized to operate in the country. The tool was developed as part of regulatory measures for the sports betting sector, allowing individuals to voluntarily request restrictions when they identify problematic gambling-related behaviors. According to information from the Estadão newspaper, centralized self-exclusion is scientifically recognized as an essential strategy for reducing harm to the mental health of the population in relation to gambling.

Mental health issues are the leading motivations for self-exclusion requests. Data released by the Ministry shows that 34% of applicants indicated "Loss of control over gambling – mental health" as the main reason. In second place, with 28% of requests, is the reason "Preventing my data from being used by betting platforms".

Most users opted for long-term blocks. The numbers reveal that 76% of people chose an indefinite period for self-exclusion, while 17% selected a one-year period. The system also offers options for three, six, and nine months of blocking.

The self-exclusion platform is accessible nationwide and applies to all betting companies that have received official authorization to operate in Brazil. According to the system, the tool is intended for those who "feel that gambling has begun to negatively affect their lives or is becoming a concern."

The Centralized Self-Exclusion Platform went live on December 10, 2025, allowing citizens to self-block from all betting sites authorized by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance (SPA-MF). The system can be accessed at gov.br/autoexclusaoapostas, after registering on the Gov.br portal with silver or gold level accounts.

Studies cited by Estadão indicate that the social cost of problems associated with gambling reaches approximately R$ 38,8 billion per year in Brazil. Of this total, R$ 30,6 billion is directly related to health damage.

The Ministry of Finance did not release information about the demographic profile of applicants, nor data on the effectiveness of the measure in reducing problems related to gambling.

In addition to allowing the blocking of access to all accounts on betting sites, the platform also makes the CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID) of the interested person unavailable for new registrations and for receiving targeted advertising from betting sites. According to the Secretary of Prizes and Betting at the Ministry of Finance, Regis Dudena, operators authorized by the SPA (Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission) automatically receive the self-exclusion notice and have up to 72 hours to block users' access to their websites and applications.
