"The Owners of the Game" gets a second season on Netflix after reaching the global Top 4.

Netflix has confirmed the renewal of the series “Owners of the Game” for a second season. The announcement was made through a promotional video this Wednesday (12). The production, which premiered on October 29, 2025, reached first place among the most watched content on the platform in just two weeks.

The streaming platform announced on social media: “You asked for it, and Os Donos do Jogo is officially renewed for its 2nd season!”. The announcement included a video featuring André Lamoglia, 28, who plays the character Profeta. In the video, the actor expresses his satisfaction at returning to the role.

Netflix has not yet announced the release date for the next season. The series addresses the struggle for control of the illegal lottery game known as "jogo do bicho" in Rio de Janeiro and has generated significant buzz on digital platforms since its release, reaching the global Top 4 with over 5,3 million views, becoming the second most-watched non-English language series of that period.

"The Owners of the Game" tells the story of four rival families – Moraes, Guerra, Fernandez, and Saad – who vie for control of gambling in Rio de Janeiro. The narrative incorporates real elements from the world of the illegal lottery game known as "jogo do bicho," using this reality as the basis for its fictional plot. Despite being a work of fiction, the series has its roots in reality. As director Heitor Dhalia explained in an interview with BBC Brasil, "we don't use real names, but the world portrayed exists and was thoroughly researched."

The central plot follows Profeta, played by Lamoglia, a member of a family of illegal gambling operators from Campos dos Goytacazes. The protagonist moves to Rio de Janeiro with the goal of expanding the family business in the gambling industry. The story delves into a world driven by power, money, and betrayal over eight episodes.

Upon arriving in the capital, Profeta discovers that the games are organized like a mafia structure. He soon becomes involved with the Guerra family, one of the most traditional in controlling the illegal lottery in the region. The character Búfalo, played by the singer Xamã, leads the business after marrying the heiress Suzana, played by Giullia Buscaccio.

The plot unfolds as Buffalo faces challenges in maintaining control of the clan. The difficulties arise not only from the arrival of Prophet, but also from his rivalry with Mirna, played by Mel Maia, the sister of his wife Suzana. These family conflicts and power struggles form the dramatic core of the series.

The cast includes other big names such as Juliana Paes and Chico Diaz, under the direction of Heitor Dhalia, known for works such as "O Cheiro do Ralo" and "Serra Pelada". The production combines the pace of a police thriller and cinematic aesthetics, mixing luxury, violence and politics, and portraying the behind-the-scenes of an empire that balances between illegality and the dream of legalizing gambling.
