Powerball arrives in the UK in July with unlimited jackpots.

Allwyn, the UK's National Lottery operator, has confirmed July 21, 2026 as the launch date for Powerball in the country. This will be the first time the game has been released in a market outside the United States.

The original announcement was made in April. With regulatory approval now complete, British players will be able to purchase a Powerball line for £4 at accredited National Lottery outlets and through the operator's website and app.

The British version of the game offers jackpots with no upper limit, starting at £12 million and potentially reaching hundreds of millions or even billions of pounds. UK players will compete for the main jackpot alongside American participants; British winners will receive the top prize in installments over 30 years.

The format includes prize categories adapted to the local market. One of them, called "matching two main numbers," is exclusive to British players and guarantees a fixed prize of £8. The "matching five main numbers" category pays a fixed prize of £1 million. The other prize tiers offer estimated values, which vary according to the numbers drawn and the number of winners in each category.

Context of the changes in the National Lottery

The launch of Powerball comes shortly after a revamp of Lotto, the National Lottery's flagship game. Starting with Tuesday's draw (June 10th), each £2 line gave players two chances to win. Since then, the new format has already created 27 millionaires, according to Allwyn.

Andria Vidler, CEO of Allwyn, stated that "Powerball jackpots can reach billions, offering impressive sums with the potential to transform lives and communities." She added that "it will be impossible to ignore the arrival of Powerball, with a large launch planned," and encouraged players to participate from the opening of sales.

Rebecca Paul, president and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery and former president of the World Lottery Association, stated that "this next step brings us closer to an exciting milestone for Powerball" and affirmed that more players mean "faster-growing jackpots, more excitement, and even greater impact for the communities served."
