São José da Laje creates municipal lottery to boost investment in social areas.

The municipality of São José da Laje has officially created its own municipal lottery. The law establishing the service was sanctioned by Mayor Angela Vanessa and published in the Official Gazette of Municipalities on September 11th. This new initiative aims to generate a new source of revenue for the city, with direct investment in health, education, security, social assistance, culture, and sports.

São José da Laje is the third city in Alagoas to approve the law, which provides for the creation of its own regulated betting and gaming system, to be operated directly or through concessions to specialized companies. According to the legislation, the operation of the lottery will follow the parameters of current federal legislation and may be granted for up to 25 years, through a public bidding process.

The Executive Branch will have 90 days to regulate the details of the lottery's implementation, including operational rules and criteria for concessions and oversight. The operation will be subject to a 5% service tax (ISS) on the gross revenue from bets.
