A tax on betting aimed at combating gambling addiction will come into effect in the United Kingdom, with collection starting in October.

Operators must allocate between 0,1% and 1,1% of their revenue to research, education, and treatment. The estimated annual revenue of £100 million will be divided between the NHS, health campaigns, and research. Brazil adopted a similar approach, increasing the tax on bets from 12% to 18% starting in October.
