The government is trying to get an expedited pass for a bill that increases taxation on betting in the Chamber of Deputies.
The Chamber of Deputies' Finance Committee will vote on the request this Wednesday after the defeat of the provisional measure that dealt with the issue. The urgency allows the bill to bypass other committees and go directly to the plenary. Increasing the tax rate from 12% to 25% would generate additional revenue for fiscal balance. The president of ANJL warns that the increase could make sports betting and online gaming operators unviable.
