Brazil's Federal Audit Court (TCU) will analyze the government's criteria for authorizing betting companies in Brazil.

The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) has received a request to analyze the procedures adopted by the federal government in authorizing betting companies in the country. Deputy Attorney General Lucas Furtado, from the Public Prosecutor's Office at the TCU, submitted the request this Tuesday (June 16th). The Secretariat of Prizes and Bets of the Ministry of Finance is the body responsible for authorizations to operate fixed-odds betting.

The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPTCU) filed a complaint with the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) questioning the process of authorizing betting companies conducted by the Executive branch. The deputy prosecutor pointed to a lack of transparency in the procedures of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance for granting authorizations to operators, according to information from Estadão.

The initiative seeks to prevent money laundering, the entry of shell companies into the national sector, the concealment of business owners' names, conflicts of interest, and the participation of prohibited or investigated individuals in the betting sector.

Minister Bruno Dantas received the case file. The TCU (Federal Court of Accounts) already conducts audits on governance, combating money laundering, and supervising the betting market.

The representation is being processed at the Federal Court of Accounts. The process was forwarded to the Specialized Audit Unit for Budget, Taxation and Fiscal Management (AudFiscal).

The complaint specifically questions the application of confidentiality to information relating to the authorization processes of betting operators. The data in question includes information on the corporate structure and ultimate beneficial owners of betting companies.

The Specialized Audit Unit for Budget, Taxation and Fiscal Management will verify who the partners of the betting companies are and who the ultimate beneficiaries are. The audit will examine how the government decides to grant authorizations. The procedures adopted will be evaluated for adequate transparency in the process.

The TCU (Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts) will analyze the criteria and procedures used by the Ministry of Finance to authorize betting operators.
