Powerball winner who won R$ 856 million in lottery money is arrested for the fourth time since winning the record jackpot.

James Farthing, winner of a $167,3 million Kentucky Powerball prize in April 2025, was arrested in Scott County, Kentucky, on charges related to domestic violence. The arrest stemmed from an alleged incident reported on Sunday (July 27), according to local authorities.

Farthing is charged with first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault. According to a criminal complaint filed with the Scott County Sheriff's Department, he allegedly wrapped his hands around a woman's neck and pinned her against a wall inside his own home.

According to the complaint, the victim reported to authorities that a verbal argument between her and Farthing escalated into physical aggression after she returned from a boat trip on Sunday morning, around 9 a.m. The woman had visible injuries to her neck.

Farthing is currently being held at the Scott County Detention Center. ABC News has reached out to his attorney for comment.

History of arrests since receiving the award.

This is not the first time Farthing has been involved in police incidents since winning the largest Powerball prize ever awarded in Kentucky. Over the course of approximately 15 months since the award, he has been arrested on several occasions.

On April 29, 2025, just days after winning the award, Farthing was arrested in Pinellas County, Florida, on two counts of first-degree assault and obstructing or resisting a law enforcement officer without violence, according to Pinellas County records. In February 2026, he pleaded not guilty to the charges during his trial.

Farthing was also indicted for felony reckless endangerment after allegedly fleeing the scene of a car accident in Lexington, Kentucky. The collision occurred on November 23, 2025, while he was driving at a speed between 103 and 117 miles per hour (approximately 165 to 188 km/h), according to ABC News affiliate in Lexington, WTVQ.

Scott County records indicate that other charges have been filed against Farthing over the years, including prior crimes of assault and strangulation, intimidation of a participant in a judicial proceeding, and possession of an illegal substance.

When he won the prize, Farthing stated that he would split the money with his mother, Linda Grizzle, for whom he had purchased the winning ticket, according to a Powerball statement.
