The body of illegal gambling boss Piruinha is buried amidst applause and the sound of Portela's samba school anthem.

During the wake, the convicted racketeer received tributes from his peers, samba schools, and artists such as Alcione, Zeca Pagodinho, and Xande de Pilares; some of Piruinha's 27 children and grandchildren were comforted with hugs and words of support.
