Charity Legends match in Lisbon raises millions for charity.
With strong support from the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), the match will see Portuguese legends playing against football royalty from the Rest of the World in an event that aims to raise over €1.000.000 for charity.

International football stars will gather in Lisbon in September for the Legends Charity Game, in order to raise funds for communities suffering from the effects of war and local tensions around the world.

Scheduled to coincide with the No SBC Summit in Lisbon , the Legends Charity Game on Monday, September 15th, will be a highly anticipated match between Portuguese legends and world legends, featuring some of the biggest names in football history. The legends will compete in front of 60.000 fans and millions watching the game online/on TV.

With strong support from the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), the match will see Portuguese legends playing against football royalty from the Rest of the World in an event that aims to raise over €1.000.000 for selected charities supporting communities and families facing extreme hardship.

Luís Figo, who won trophies all over Europe, in addition to the Ballon d'Or in 2000, will captain the Portuguese Legends team. He comments: “It’s always a pleasure to return to my country and play football, especially wearing the national team colors! I hope to see a packed stadium in my hometown, Lisbon, for this incredible Legends Charity Match and raise funds for important charitable causes.”

Joining Figo in the triumphant Euro 2016 team are Ricardo Quaresma, Eliseu and Ricardo Carvalho. Champions League winners Fábio Coentrão, Maniche, Hugo Almeida, Vitor Baia, José Bosingwa and Deco will also play tonight, as well as other famous Portuguese legends including Beto, Jorge Andrade, Dani, Tiago Mendes, Hélder Postiga, Nuno Gomes and Simão. They will be led by another Champions League winner – Costinha.

They will face stiff competition from the World Legends team, which includes legends such as: Peter Schmeichel (Denmark), Cafu (Brazil), Javier Zanetti (Argentina), Diego Lugano (Uruguay), Leonardo Bonucci (Italy), Gaizka Mendieta (Spain), Youri Djorkaeff (France), Christian Karambeu (France), Marek Hamsik (Slovakia), Giorgos Karagounis (Greece), Krassimir Balakov (Bulgaria), Gheorghe Hagi (Romania), Edwin van der Sar (Netherlands), Henrik Larsson (Sweden), Shota Arveladze (Georgia), Javier Saviola (Argentina) and Ronaldinho (Brazil).

The match will be played in front of 60.000 fans at either the Estádio da Luz (Benfica's stadium) or the Estádio José Alvalade (Sporting Lisbon's stadium), which will be part of a big and exciting reveal in August when the Champions League schedule is announced.

The Legends Charity Game aims to raise over €1.000.000 for various charitable causes, both abroad and in Portugal, with the Football Family seeking to give back to families around the world. Funds will be raised for national and international charities that help families and communities in need.

One of the international organizations that The Legends Charity Game will be raising funds for is the Ukrainian Red Cross (URCS). Daily, Ukrainian Red Cross teams provide support in evacuations, psychosocial care and first aid, as well as essential humanitarian assistance, support for temporary shelters, assistance in home restoration, and awareness campaigns about the risks of unexploded ordnance. Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers and staff work in all regions of the country to support those most in need.

Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross, comments: “The war in Ukraine continues and, unfortunately, millions of people still need support every day. We don't have the right to stop. Initiatives like the Legends Charity Game are not just about the funds raised. They are about compassion and understanding that the world is on our side. They are about solidarity that translates into real help for those going through the most difficult times. We are grateful to everyone who participates.”

Caritas Portugal, based in Lisbon, which provides essential support to marginalized communities struggling with issues such as poverty and inadequate emergency assistance, is also a charitable partner of the Legends Charity Game.

SBC founder and CEO Rasmus Sojmark explains: “We are elevating our charitable efforts this year with a spectacular football match in order to raise a lot of money for very noble causes. By connecting the match with the SBC Summit in Lisbon in the same week, we have found a way for communities linked to football and business to help other communities facing unimaginable difficulties.”

Tickets are available for purchase on the official website www.legendscharitygame.com . The ticketing team will handle ticket management for the event.

Sponsorship and hospitality opportunities are still available to support the event and charities. Some of the confirmed sponsors include iGP, Soft2Bet, Sportingtech, Vegas Legends, Spribe, SmartSoft, and Alea.

The Sport Global Charitable Foundation is an investment fund under the auspices of the Prism the Gift Fund (a registered charity in the United Kingdom under number 1099682). All proceeds from the Legends Charity Game will be donated to the Sport Global Charitable Foundation's charitable institutions supporting various causes, including the Ukrainian Red Cross and Caritas Portugal.
