LONDON – Airline passengers may soon have card games, casinos, and bluffing as entertainment options on board. This service strategy is in the plans of Ryanair, the Irish airline operating in Europe with a low-cost, low-fare concept. The company, which has been changing the concept of aviation in Europe by charging for meals, baggage, and movies on board, announced that it intends to implement the strategy soon. According to Michael O'Leary, Ryanair's CEO, current government restrictions on gambling in Europe may not apply to air travel. "I don't know who would be able to stop a passenger from gambling. It's like duty-free offers. We'll be in international waters," the executive told reporters. While the plans are not yet implemented, O'Leary states that technology already exists that can be adapted to new in-flight entertainment systems, and games could be charged to passengers' credit cards, as is the case with airline telephone systems.
