In 2017, Caixa Econômica Federal, through its CAIXA Lotteries division, recorded R$ 13,88 billion in bets collected, representing a nominal growth of 8,14% compared to 2016. Given the macroeconomic scenario of gradual economic recovery, the volume of bets exceeded the bank's expectations. Among the modalities, Mega-Sena remains the best-selling product, accounting for 42% of the revenue, followed by Lotofácil and Quina, responsible for 26% and 18% of the share, respectively. The great success of the 2017 Mega da Virada edition deserves particular mention, offering the largest prize in the history of lotteries in Brazil and Latin America. The R$ 306 million prize, divided among 17 winning bets, is also a record for this special contest, which also registered the highest revenue per contest, exceeding R$ 890 million. Adding to this result is Timemania, which showed a performance 71,8% higher than in 2016.

According to the Vice President of Government Funds and Lotteries at CAIXA, Deusdina dos Reis Pereira, 2017 was a year particularly marked by opportunities and challenges, ending with the success of the Mega da Virada (New Year's Mega-Sena). “That special draw alone distributed more than R$ 431 million to 178 winning bets. During the year, CAIXA Lotteries offered more than R$ 4,2 billion in prizes, consolidating the social role of lotteries in Brazil, which, in addition to being a fundamental part of the growth strategy and maintenance of the country's public policies, provide opportunities for bettors to realize their dreams through millionaire prizes,” stated Deusdina.

Special Contests:
The year's special lotteries, Dupla Sena de Páscoa, Quinas de São João, and Lotofácil da Independência, paid out over R$ 251,6 million in their main prize categories, creating 30 new millionaires across the country. In the Mega da Virada, the main prize was over R$ 18 million for each winning ticket.

Social Transfers:
