Brazilian Federal Police target R$ 45 million fraud at Caixa Econômica Federal with Operation Infiltrados.
The Federal Police launched Operation Infiltrados this Tuesday (22) to investigate a criminal organization suspected of diverting around R$ 45 million from account holders and beneficiaries of Caixa Econômica Federal. The scheme was allegedly operated through electronic fraud and unauthorized access to confidential information.
The operation mobilized approximately 120 federal police officers, who are executing 25 search and seizure warrants in seven municipalities. The Federal Police are receiving support from the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF).
According to the Federal Police, the suspects used confidential data to carry out the frauds and relied on public servants to obstruct investigations and leak privileged information. The investigations also indicate that the organization had support from people linked to the operation of illegal lotteries.
Search locations
Search and seizure warrants are being executed in the municipalities of Rio de Janeiro, Duque de Caxias, Nova Iguaçu, Niterói, and Cabo Frio, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In São Paulo, the operations extend to Indaiatuba and Salto.
Those under investigation could face charges of organized crime, obstruction of justice, and breach of professional secrecy. The Federal Police noted that other crimes may be identified during the course of the investigations.

When contacted, Caixa (the bank) stated in a note that it works in conjunction with the Federal Police and collaborates with the competent authorities in investigations and operations to combat fraud and scams. "Such information is considered confidential and is passed on exclusively to the Federal Police and other competent bodies for analysis and investigation," the bank stated.
The institution added that it continuously monitors its products and banking transactions to identify suspicious cases. "Caixa clarifies that it has a strategy, policies, and security procedures to protect the data and operations of its clients and has technologies and specialized teams to guarantee the security of its processes and service channels," the statement concluded.
