Reopening of the Lambari casino may be closer than ever.

The famous Lake Casino in the city of Lambari may be reactivated. The possibility of reusing the space is not ruled out and is already being considered by authorities representing southern Minas Gerais. This week, federal deputy Newton Cardoso Junior, in an exclusive interview with Brasil Metrópole, commented on the matter. According to him, the Lambari casino is a case that should be leveraged with the approval of the bill that aims to regulate gambling in Brazil.
Parliamentary Front for the Legalization of Gambling. There is an expectation in the Chamber of Deputies that Bill 442/91 – which deals with authorizing the return of bingo halls and casinos in Brazil – will be put to a vote in the coming weeks.
The 1991 proposal was authored by Renato Vianna (PMDB-SC). The issue, which has already been debated in several public hearings, was approved by the special commission on the regulatory framework in September 2016. The request for the project to be put to a vote in November came from the leader of the Parliamentary Front for the Legalization of Gambling, federal deputy César Halum (PR-TO), in a request to the Speaker of the House, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ). The Speaker of the House reportedly committed to allies to put the project to a vote this month, after the issue gained momentum due to the formation of the parliamentary front with 262 deputies.
In addition to this, other similar projects are being processed in the National Congress. One of them is in the Senate. The parliamentary front's idea is that with the project's approval, it will be possible to begin the construction of casinos in Brazil as early as next year. In general, the project will allow most gaming offerings, from the adoption of the casino resort model and sports betting to the legalization of the famous "Jogo do Bicho" (a type of illegal lottery) and the implementation of online gaming.
What is the Regulatory Framework for Games? It is a set of 14 draft laws (PL 442/91 and related bills) that regulate the activities of casinos, bingo halls, the jogo do bicho (a type of illegal lottery), and other forms of gambling currently prohibited, such as slot machines and online games. The rapporteur, Guilherme Mussi (PP-SP), brought everything together in a final proposal, which has been called the "Regulatory Framework for Games in Brazil".

He explains that the Lake Casino is remembered fondly and, based on this project, could have a new future; “We are working hard to ensure the renovation of Lake Guanabará, around the casino. The lake needs the restoration of two streams that flow into it. We are working hard with our vice-mayor, Dr. João Paulo, and councilors Juarez and Éder. The Lambari casino is an idea that we must take advantage of within the scope of this law. If it is approved with our amendment, Lambari will certainly have authorization to operate a casino, as well as Caxambu, São Lourenço, Poços de Caldas and many other municipalities in southern Minas Gerais.”
History. During the golden age of gambling in Brazil, the mastermind behind the Lago Casino was Américo Werneck. The proposal to bring a casino with refined luxury and an imposing neoclassical-baroque architectural style attracted all eyes to southern Minas Gerais at the time.
On April 24, 1911, the casino was officially inaugurated. The palace doors were opened, welcoming authorities from all parts of the country. The highlight of the evening was the presence of the then-president of the republic and his entourage.
