The Paulo Gustavo Law and the fate of the legal framework for games in the Senate.

The expectation that the legal framework for video games could soon be debated in the Senate has divided industry associations, which disagree on the assessment of the text already approved by the Chamber of Deputies and how to approach parliamentarians.
After urging senators to reject the bill, Abragames, the association of video game developers, is now working to change the wording and ensure access to incentives under the Paulo Gustavo Law – a nearly 4 billion reais bailout to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on culture, reveals the Radar Online column on Veja.com.
Senator Izalci Lucas (PSDB-DF) presented an amendment to the bill in this regard, classifying games as "audiovisual works".
ABFS, which represents fantasy sports companies such as Cartola FC and Rei do Pitaco, responded with an official letter to the entire Senate stating that the current version of the gaming framework is "capable of boosting the growth not only of fantasy games, but also of the entire electronic games industry."
According to the fantasy sports association's calculations, the adoption of the bill as it stands, without changes, could increase revenue in that specific segment by 120% by 2028.
