Representative Adolfo Viana (PSDB-BA) has always defended the legalization of gambling in the Chamber of Deputies.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), appointed this Friday morning (25) Representative Adolfo Viana (PSDB-BA) as rapporteur for Bill 3626/2023, which has an 'urgent' processing regime. The proposal has a deadline until September 9 to be voted on in the House of Representatives.

According to what BNLData has learned, the bill is expected to absorb a large part of the text of Provisional Measure 1182/23.

The Speaker of the House, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), said this Thursday (24) that the bill that will regulate sports betting in the country, known as Bets, will start to be discussed next week.

The 'urgency' procedure imposes a 45-day deadline on each of the Houses of the National Congress to deliberate on the matter. In other words, the proposed regulation of the sector must be considered within 90 days of the decision by the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.

In favor of legalizing gambling.

In April 2019, Congressman Adolfo Viana (PSDB-BA) argued in the Chamber of Deputies that Bill 442/91 should be included on the agenda for consideration and voting. The proposal legalizes games of chance in the country.

According to the legislator, the lack of regulation in this sector leads the country to forgo millions in revenue and millions of jobs by keeping gambling underground.

“I wanted to talk about the importance of bringing forward the Bill that regulates gambling in our country as quickly as possible. Today, we are giving up billions in revenue, giving up millions of jobs, and, worst of all, gambling through international websites is happening in our country. Anyone today can go online, access a website, and play all kinds of casino games, bingo, and slot machines. Therefore, it is up to this House to regulate as quickly as possible so that this revenue and oversight can take place in our country. So I ask that this Plenary evaluate this possibility so that we can consider this bill here as soon as possible.”

In May of the same year, Congressman Adolfo Viana (PSDB-BA) defended, in an interview with A Voz do Brasil , the legalization of all forms of gambling.

"The congressman from Bahia believes that the delay in regulating gambling is causing Brazil to lose billions in revenue and millions of jobs. The congressman also argues that people have access to casino games, bingo, and slot machines through international websites, and regulation paves the way for revenue collection and oversight of the sector to actually take place in the country," the report stated.
