Dupla Sena celebrates its 25th anniversary as the sixth best-selling lottery game from Caixa.

Dupla Sena turns 25 this Friday (6). The first draw of the modality was held on November 6, 2001, at Espaço Loterias Caixa, in São Paulo. It was created to give bettors two chances to win with a single ticket and reaches a quarter of a century with stable sales and a loyal audience, but with less weight in the portfolio of federal lotteries.
In 2025, Dupla Sena raised R$ 523,03 million, or 1,97% of the total R$ 26,61 billion sold by Caixa Lotteries. This amounts to approximately R$ 1,4 million per day, or an average of R$ 3,35 million per draw, considering the three weekly draws. This lottery ranked sixth among the 12 federal lotteries.
The difference compared to the leaders is significant. Mega-Sena alone sold R$ 10,84 billion, approximately 20,7 times the value of Dupla Sena, and accounted for 40,72% of the total. Lotofácil comes next, with R$ 8,39 billion (31,54%). Together, the two account for 72,26% of all bets placed on Caixa's lotteries.
The advantage over the next winner is small. Timemania raised R$ 496,99 million (1,87%), only R$ 26,04 million less than Dupla Sena.

Loss of space
Over time, Dupla Sena lost ground. When it turned 20 in 2021, it was the fifth best-selling lottery game and accounted for 2,7% of portfolio sales. Since then, it has fallen one position and been overtaken by +Milionária, launched in 2022, which now raises more than double that amount.
This is common in the lottery market. When new products with larger prizes emerge, older modalities with smaller prizes lose ground. The big prizes are what attract bettors the most, and they are concentrated in Mega-Sena and +Milionária.
The Dupla Sena lottery has its big moment once a year, with the Easter Dupla Sena. In 2026, the special draw opened the calendar of special lotteries with a prize of R$ 35 million, which does not accumulate.
How works
The player selects between 6 and 15 numbers from the 50 available on the betting slip. The minimum bet, with six numbers, costs R$ 3,00. Each draw has two independent rounds, and the same bet is entered in both. The winner is the one who matches 3, 4, 5, or 6 numbers in either round.
According to Caixa, the chance of correctly guessing all six numbers with a simple bet is 1 in 15.890.700. The draws take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, starting at 21 PM, at Espaço da Sorte in São Paulo. Following the calendar sequence, draw number 3.030 should take place this Friday, the anniversary day.
