Esportes da Sorte has notified Corinthians' board of directors requesting the termination of its main sponsorship contract. The company wants to end the agreement without paying a penalty, based on the suspension of the agreement determined by Provisional Measure (MP) 1.394/2026, which prohibits the operation of betting houses in Brazil.

The information was initially published by UOL and confirmed by Estadão. Corinthians, for its part, understands that any decision regarding the contract depends on the outcome of the Provisional Measure in the National Congress, a necessary step to make the ban definitive.

In a statement, Esportes da Sorte stated that the current scenario makes "the continuation of the contracts unfeasible" and defended the formal termination of the partnership. "Given this legal impediment, the natural course of action was to formalize the termination of the partnerships without any cost or penalty for the parties, exactly as stipulated in the signed agreements," the statement said.

Contract and financial impact

The agreement between the club and the betting company was renewed in February 2026 and extended until 2029. In the agreement, Esportes da Sorte committed to paying Corinthians a fixed R$ 150 million per year. The contract has been suspended since September 25, 2026, the date on which the Federal Government issued Provisional Measure 1.394, which also suspended all other agreements in Brazilian football involving betting companies.

The financial magnitude of the sector for national football is evident in the numbers; in direct sponsorships, betting companies accounted for 7,9% of the revenue of Serie A clubs in 2025, in addition to investments in competitions and television advertising.

Congress and Supreme Court

On Tuesday (November 3rd), Corinthians and other clubs will participate in a public hearing at the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to discuss lawsuits regarding the operation of betting companies in Brazil. Since the publication of the Provisional Measure, new lawsuits have been filed in the Court, with growing interest from betting companies and clubs.

In Congress, amendments to the provisional measure propose the partial maintenance of the sector's activities, highlighting the role of betting in sports financing. The scenario outlined by some of the parliamentary texts is considered uncertain for the sector's future.

Esportes da Sorte itself left the door open in its statement. The company stated that both it and the clubs "maintain confidence in a positive solution for the sector and are ready to resume dialogue should the Provisional Measure be suspended or amended."

With the termination of operating licenses determined by Provisional Measure No. 1.394, sponsorship activities and institutional exposure are no longer permitted by law, making the continuation of the contracts unfeasible.

Given this legal impediment, the natural course of action was to formalize the termination of the partnerships without any cost or penalty for the parties, exactly as stipulated in the signed agreements.

Even in the face of this adverse scenario, the company and the clubs remain confident in a positive solution for the sector and are ready to resume dialogue should the Provisional Measure be suspended or amended.
