France launched a new lottery on Monday (3) whose proceeds will be entirely destined to safeguard threatened historical heritage, with which it intends to raise around 18 million euros.

The government, through the public lottery company La Française des Jeux, has put scratch-off tickets on sale featuring images of some of the monuments that require conservation work.

The monuments were selected by a special mission led by well-known television presenter Stéphane Bern, a personal friend of President Emmanuel Macron and an expert on the history of European crowns.

270 French heritage monuments in a state of disrepair and in need of intervention have been identified.

Along with scratch cards, which will cost 15 euros and offer prizes of up to 1,5 million euros, La Française das Jeux will also sell lottery tickets, which will cost 3 euros and will be drawn on the 14th, with a prize of 13 million euros.

In both cases, these are the largest prizes distributed by the public lottery company, and the ticket prices are also the highest.

The scratch-off ticket will also distribute other smaller prizes, starting from 15 euros. According to La Française des Jeux, a third of the tickets sold will receive prizes.

The 10% collected that usually goes to the State coffers will, in this case, be allocated to the Heritage Foundation to restore these monuments.

These two gambling games were among Bern's proposals to save the estate, along with launching a large online fundraising campaign that has so far raised 1,3 million euros. ( UOL Entertainment with EFE)
