The Minister of Public Security, Raul Jungmann, proposes reviewing the rate of increase as an alternative to compensate for the loss of resources in other ministries.

Reducing the rate of increase doesn't necessarily mean a reduction in prizes: understand what this change could mean for bettors and the government.

The nearly 7% increase in prize money for national federal lotteries, such as Mega-Sena, Quina, and other popular lotteries, foreseen by a Provisional Measure sent to Congress in March, should be reviewed and redistributed to meet the demands of the Ministries of Culture, Sports, and Public Security.

Following the government's decision to allocate federal lottery funds to the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministries of Culture and Sport were left without financial support and complained about the lack of money. Therefore, the Minister of Public Security, Raul Jungmann, proposes reviewing the rate of increase as an alternative to compensate for the loss of resources in other ministries.

The government proposal consists of reducing the initial increase, which was from 43% to 50%, to 47% or 48%. In other words, the 7% previously allocated solely to lotteries will be divided between 2% and 3% for the Ministries of Sport and Culture, and the remainder for Public Security.

“What we are working on – and this is not yet finalized – is the possibility of slightly reducing the increase in the premium and redirecting it so that these areas are served. Instead of taking it to 50%, you would take 47% or 48% and redistribute it,” Jungmann stated.

According to Portal do Brasil, the government estimates it will collect around R$ 800 million this year for security through lottery revenue transfers, and approximately R$ 4,3 billion by 2022. ( Terra Notícias – Dino)
