Jockey knocks rival off his horse during race, causing him to 'flip' on the ground; watch the moment.

An unusual and unsportsmanlike incident occurred during a horse race held at the Saint Cloud racecourse in France this Saturday, October 1st. Losing his position to Irishman Rossa Ryan, Christophe Soumillon pushed him with his elbow, causing him to fall and tumble three times on the ground.
Although his rival was not seriously injured – and walked away – the aggression resulted in the Belgian competitor's elimination from the event before it even finished. Because of this, Soumillon was suspended from the sport for 60 days.

The punishment will come into effect after the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe – the most valuable race on the European circuit, with a prize of 5 million euros (approximately R$ 26,53 million) – and will be valid from October 14 to December 12.
The Belgian explained himself after the accident in an interview with Sky Sports, saying that his initial intention was to contest space. “I was right behind Rossa and I put my elbow against him, just to make him understand that I wasn't going inside. Unfortunately, when I asked my horse to stay and go a little to the right, I pushed him for a stride or two and he fell,” he said.
Regretful, he apologized to his rival and said he was relieved that he hadn't been seriously injured. “I know I made a mistake and I'm very sad about what happened, because I hate seeing things like this. I want to apologize to everyone. I just saw Rossa, he's fine and I'm happy about that, and the horse is too,” Soumillon added. ( O Estado de S.Paulo )

Brazilian jockey Leandro Henrique's operation was successful.
The champion jockey in Rio de Janeiro's turf statistics, Leandro Henrique, underwent surgery this Tuesday afternoon (04) at the Unimed Hospital, in Barra da Tijuca, to have a titanium plate placed on the ribs fractured in the accident suffered at the Gávea Hippodrome, when he fell from the horse Grand Prix. Doctors removed all the blood accumulated in the lungs, and, with the placement of the plate to align the ribs, the expectation is for a faster recovery for the jockey, contracted by Haras Anderson.
During the recovery period of the Pernambuco jockey, Leandro Henrique, the thoroughbreds owned by Haras Anderson, Haras Sweet Carol, and Stud Pedudu will be ridden by jockey Marcelo Gonçalves, hired as a second-string jockey for the horses housed at the Friburgo training center, under the care of Adélcio Menegolo and Jorge A. Borioni. At yesterday's meeting, Gonçalves performed very well aboard Il Campione, from Haras Sweet Carol, winner of the Plenty of Kicks Special Race. ( Raia Leve – Paulo Gama )
