Three tables were needed to accommodate the large number of people interested in the Brazilian gaming market. The two main topics discussed at the Roundtable on Brazil were the regulation of sports betting and the legalization of gambling.

The debate, which included the participation of lawyer Luiz Felipe Maia (FYMSA Advogados), Bruno Omori (Brazilian Association of Hotels – São Paulo), JD Duarte (Betcris) and Neil Montgomery (Montgomery Sociedade de Advogados), was reinforced by the president of the Chamber's Tourism Commission, Deputy Newton Cardoso Jr., and the state deputy for Minas Gerais, Alencar da Silveira Jr.

Also present were the president of the Minas Gerais State Lottery – Ronan Moreira, the former president of the Rio de Janeiro State Lottery and secretary of the Special Commission on Sports, Lottery and Entertainment Law of the OAB (Brazilian Bar Association), the president of the Brazilian Legal Gaming Institute – IJL, Magnho José, the president of ABRABICS (Brazilian Association of Gaming Industries), Olavo Sales da Silveira, among others.

Initially, the panelists gave a presentation on the process of regulating sports betting and the expectations for adjustments to the law due to the high taxation of this type of betting.

The chairman of the Chamber of Deputies' Tourism Committee, Congressman Newton Cardoso Jr., commented on the process of legalizing gambling in Brazil, revealing that Jair Bolsonaro is in favor of legalization and the president's desire to delegate the decision on gambling to the states.

He commented on the expected voting on Bill 442/91, following the approval of the substitute bill in 2016, the difficulties faced with the religious caucus, and the division of opinions between those who only want casinos in resorts and the parliamentarians who want the legalization of all forms of gambling.

Regarding sports betting, the legislator promised to work to change the legislation.

At the end of the crowded roundtable discussion, Representative Alencar da Silveira Jr., who has long advocated for the legalization of all gambling, made a timely and wise comment:

"Gambling will only be legalized in Brazil when all forms of gambling are legalized, from casinos to the jogo do bicho (illegal lottery)."

ICE VOX concluded this Tuesday with a Latam Drinks cocktail party offered by Online IPS.
