Currently, gambling addiction is portrayed in all three telenovela time slots on TV Globo. But characters who can't resist gambling – and their respective dramas – have been present in television dramas for a long time. Check out other cases in the list below and relive them with Vídeo Show.

Miguel loses at gambling and causes a scene at the casino.

In Orphans of the Earth, Dalila (Alice Wegmann) and Paul (Carmo Dalla Vecchia) set up a fake illegal casino, and Miguel (Paulo Betti) fell into the villain's trap. The merchant lost so much money at roulette that he had to accept an arrangement proposed by Basma (Dalila in disguise) and transferred his shop and family home to Jamil (Renato Góes) as collateral for the debt. Furthermore, he was beaten by the loan shark, had his grandson kidnapped, and his shop vandalized.

Jerônimo has bad luck at gambling.

Jerônimo (Jesuíta Barbosa) also can't resist gambling in Verão 90, and has almost lost his life because of it. At the beginning of the plot, Janaína (Dira Paes) had to give all the money she had saved to fulfill her dream of opening her own restaurant to pay off her son's gambling debts. And even then he didn't change his ways, he continues to gamble!

Régis loses the game.

In the telenovela "A Dona do Pedaço," Régis (Reynaldo Gianecchini) has even committed some robberies to pay for what he lost at the roulette table in the illegal casino he frequents. The rogue was caught by Maria da Paz (Juliana da Paz) at the location, with the betting chips in his hand, but he will manage to turn the situation around, convincing her that he was just having fun and only gambles occasionally.

Américo bets on poker.

In Espelho da Vida (2018/2019), Américo (Felipe Camargo) lost all the money he earned – dishonestly, it should be said – playing cards. Besides gambling, he also had a drinking problem.

Silvana loses the game.

Lilia Cabral played Silvana, a compulsive gambler who went to extreme lengths, in the telenovela A Força do Querer (2017). The architect stole a check from her husband's company, was imprisoned under threat from creditors, appropriated money from Bibi Perigosa (Juliana Paes), had her house broken into and robbed, and even her daughter was held at gunpoint by a debt collector.

César goes to an illegal bingo hall and ends up arrested.

César (Rafael Cardoso), from Sol Nascente (2016/2017), ventured into an illegal gambling house and ended up being caught red-handed, just as he was about to collect a large sum of money he had won. But gambling was one of the family businesses: the villain's own grandmother, Dona Sinhá (Laura Cardoso), owned a casino in the plot.

Adonis loses money gambling.

In Haja Coração (2016), Adônis (José Loreto) pocketed the money meant for college tuition to pretend to be rich, and enjoyed gambling at roulette. The liar ended up incurring a debt and had to steal from the aunt who raised him to pay it off.

Maurice loses everything in the game.

Maurice (Reginaldo Faria) lost money he had borrowed and even his pants playing cards. In Totalmente Demais (2015/2016), Arthur's (Fábio Assunção) father was a bon vivant who couldn't resist gambling.

Marlene catches Durval at a betting shop.

In Sete Vidas, Durval (Claudio Jaborandy) was addicted to horse racing and even stopped paying child support to place his bets. He tried to maintain his relationship with Marlene (Cyria Coentro) with lies for some time, until she discovered the truth and exposed him.

Ernest encourages Venceslau to bet Iolanda at the poker table.

In the telenovela Joia Rara (2013/2014), Reginaldo Faria once again played a compulsive gambler. Influenced by Ernest (José de Abreu), Venceslau even went so far as to gamble away his own daughter in card games, and because of this, Iolanda (Carolina Dieckmann) was forced to marry the villain.

Caetano loses everything in the game against Dino.

The current 6 PM telenovela isn't the first time Paulo Betti has played a character who loses everything gambling. In Malhação Casa Cheia (2013), he played Caetano, who ended up in his underwear and tie at the gambling house because he lost even his clothes gambling.

Gabino meets Kléber at the illegal casino.

Kléber (Cassiano Gabus Mendes) was caught more than once gambling at roulette in Insensato Coração (2011). Without receiving child support from him, Daisy (Isabela Garcia) confronted him at an illegal casino, and later Gabino (Guilherme Piva) also found his brother with the chips in his hand.

Flora beats Pedro at poker.

In the telenovela A Favorita, Flora (Patricia Pillar) faced Pedro (Genésio de Barros), her own father, at a poker table and won a fortune. He, however, left the confrontation indebted and asked his daughter to lend him money to pay the house. But she, resentful, refused.

Ciro loses money gambling.

Ciro, played by Raul Gazolla in Anjo Mau, was Eduardo Medeiros' (José Lewgoy) trusted man and an inveterate gambler. He took control of the company after the wealthy man's death, but lost a lot of money at the gambling tables. ( See the videos at gshow – Vídeo Show – Globo.com )
