Legalization of gambling: resumption of the processing of Bill 442/91 makes headlines in the media 1
A proposal authorizing the operation of casinos, bingo halls, the "jogo do bicho" (a type of lottery), and other forms of gambling could be voted on as early as February of this year.

Throughout last week, the Speaker of the House, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), told party leaders that he intends to schedule, still in February, the bill that regulates gambling in Brazil, reveals O Antagonista.

The proposal, however, is considered controversial and faces resistance from the conservative wing of the National Congress. Leaders of the evangelical caucus and parties such as PSL, PSC, Republicans, and DEM have already signaled to Lira that they would not like to 'waste energy' on a matter that lacks consensus among deputies and faces resistance from the Presidential Palace.

As we reported last Friday, Congressman Filipe Barros (PSL-PR), aligned with the President of the Republic, submitted a request to annul the vote on the urgency request for the proposal.

As we showed, on December 16th, the Chamber of Deputies approved, by 293 votes in favor and 198 against, the request for priority in the analysis of the proposal.

The bill legalizes casino activities, bingo, the "jogo do bicho" (a type of lottery), and other forms of gambling (including horse racing). It also establishes rules for gamblers and creates a registry to identify compulsive gamblers.
