With the remarkable growth of the online betting and casino market in Brazil, understanding who the average bettor is has become essential for brands, regulators, and the media. By 2025, research points to a more modern, digital profile oriented towards small bets. These characteristics reflect both the popularization of smartphones and the recent regulation of the sector.

Gathering key data from recent studies helps to paint a reliable picture of the Brazilian gambler.

An increasingly connected gambler

The widespread use of smartphones and the advancement of national connectivity have transformed the landscape of online betting and casinos in Brazil. According to a survey published in 2024 by ANBIMA (Brazilian Association of Financial and Capital Market Entities), two-thirds of bettors are in their 20s and, in the vast majority of cases, are men.

Furthermore, 25% of players use apps to place bets, reinforcing the preference for mobile devices and quick experiences.

Dominant age group and financial behavior

According to data released by Paag:

⇒ The largest volume of transactions comes from bettors between 25 and 49 years old.

⇒ The national average ticket price is R$ 61,52.

⇒ Over 90% of bets are below R$100.

Transactions above R$1.000 represent less than 1% of registrations, but generate almost 15% of total revenue.

Players aged 65 to 79 have the highest average individual ticket price, exceeding R$ 71,79.

Where are the gamblers and what are they playing?

Paag's research also indicates that bettors are distributed throughout all regions of the country. The state of São Paulo leads in volume and also in total value transacted. Meanwhile, Paraná and Santa Catarina are the states with the highest average ticket price, above R$ 66.

Regarding the type of bet, Brazil is truly the country of football , and this is reflected in the relationship between the sport and betting. Football sports betting is the most sought after. This type of bettor likes to follow championships and bet on their favorite teams and players.

But there are also online gambling sites that offer more options beyond sports-themed titles. A survey conducted in 2024 by the National Confederation of Retail Leaders (CNDL) and the Credit Protection Service (SPC Brasil), in partnership with Offerwise Pesquisas, showed that online casinos are also popular. Among them, the most played options are slots (28%), roulette (22%) and slot machines (20%).
