SIGAP already has 150 license applications from 145 companies to operate sports betting and online gaming.

Since September 18th, 31 more companies have submitted requests for authorization to operate in the fixed-odds betting and online gaming market through the Betting Management System – SIGAP of the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets of the Ministry of Finance (SPA/MF), following all guidelines and regulations (SPA/MF 827/24) of the Ministry of Finance.

With these new applications, there are now 150 license applications from 145 companies seeking to operate in the regulated market, which could actually translate into 450 betting sites, since the law allows each company to operate up to three commercial brands in Brazil. If all platforms are approved by SPA/MF, the government could collect R$ 4.5 billion in fixed grants alone.

The new registrations are due to the fact that Ordinance 1.475/24, published on September 16, stipulated that only companies that had submitted their authorization request to the Ministry of Finance by the date of publication of the regulation would be included in the adaptation period, starting on October 1, 2024.

Some companies are interpreting the fact that ANNEX to Ordinance 1.475/24 states at the end that the “application must be sent to the email address [email protected] , with the title APPLICATION FOR INDICATION OF LEGAL ENTITIES IN OPERATION TO WORK DURING THE ADJUSTMENT PERIOD followed by the name of the applicant company until 23:59:59 PM on September 30, 2024” as opening a loophole for companies to register until this Monday, the 30th.
