Online betting will generate R$ 9,95 billion in revenue for the federal government in 2025.

The federal government obtained R$ 9,95 billion in revenue from the online betting sector during the year 2025. The information was released this Thursday (January 22nd) by the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service (RFB), during a press conference held at the Ministry of Finance, in Brasília.
The announcement is part of the federal tax revenue report presented by the Internal Revenue Service. The Special Secretary of the RFB, Robinson Barreirinhas, led the presentation of data regarding the taxation of the digital betting sector last year.
The revenue obtained from betting represents a 10,83% increase compared to the previous period, when the government collected R$ 91 million from the sector. This amount was incorporated into the federal government's fiscal results for 2025.
In December alone, R$ 1,1 billion was collected, compared to R$ 28 million recorded in the same month of the previous year, representing an impressive increase of over 3.000%.
“These are good numbers, representing significant growth. This is especially true considering the high level of the previous year and the non-recurring revenues of 2024. If we disregard the non-recurring revenues [of 2024], the result would be even better,” Barreirinhas stated during the press conference.
The amount collected from bets is the result of applying a 12% tax rate to the gross revenue from games (GGR), in addition to other taxes such as PIS (Social Integration Program) and Cofins (Contribution to Social Security Financing).
The nearly R$10 billion raised from online betting contributed to the Brazilian government's total revenue last year. These funds were included among the federal revenue sources for 2025, which totaled R$2,89 trillion in taxes, contributions, and other revenues, adjusted for inflation.
In December alone, federal tax revenue reached R$ 292 billion. According to the tax authorities, this is the best revenue performance since 1995, both for the month and for the year to date.
The full presentation of the fiscal data took place at the Ministry of Finance headquarters, with the direct participation of the Secretary of the Federal Revenue. The released report did not include projections on future revenue from online betting for the coming periods.
