The Ministry of Planning recommends rejecting the bill that legalizes gambling.

The Planalto Palace distributed to senators an informative note from the Ministry of Planning and Budget recommending the complete rejection of bill 2.234 of 2022, which legalizes casinos, bingo, and the jogo do bicho (a type of illegal lottery) and is on the Senate floor's agenda this Wednesday, reveals the Radar Column in VEJA magazine.
The analysis suggests that, if transformed into law, the text would have "negative social and economic impacts on the Brazilian population, particularly on the lower income brackets."
“Preliminary estimates from the Ministry of Finance indicate that, since it is not a productive activity, most of the revenue will come from a change in the population's spending patterns, with people ceasing to consume other goods and services and instead investing their resources in gambling. In other words, the increase in revenue resulting from the legalization of gambling will occur mainly at the expense of revenue from other taxes,” says the Planning Ministry's information note.
