A year ago, Brazil took an important step towards regulating the sports betting and iGaming market. Law 14.790/23 came into effect on January 1, 2025, with the aim of boosting the sector and ensuring legal security, greater protection for consumers, and an attractive environment for operators. The consolidation of the regulatory framework has placed the country in a new scenario, moving the sector towards a more structured, transparent, and investment-friendly industry. Now, the segment is going through a decisive moment, which could be a turning point for the Brazilian market.

— Regulation brings predictability and raises the level of the industry in the country. We are talking about a sector that will operate with clear rules, which increases investor confidence and strengthens the entire economic chain involved. Prohibition is not the way forward; it ends up encouraging illegality — says Plínio Lemos Jorge, president of the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL).

This advancement presents challenges, especially in the legal and operational fields. Companies wishing to operate in the country need to adapt to new regulatory requirements, the need for rigorous compliance, and the construction of appropriate operational structures.

Regulation has paved the way for the development of a new economic sphere, with the potential to generate jobs, tax revenue, and technological innovation. According to experts and industry representatives, Brazil is positioning itself as one of the most promising markets in the world, combining scale, demand, and an evolving regulated environment.

The expansion of the market, marked by the organization of operators and the emergence of new companies, has been driving job creation and opportunities in the digital economy. The maturing of regulations is increasing the demand for qualified professionals and specialized services, particularly in the areas of technology, marketing, customer service, compliance, product, and data analysis, as well as stimulating a network of suppliers that keeps pace with the industry's growth.

— The growth of iGaming in Brazil is directly linked to the generation of opportunities. We are seeing the creation of new careers, the development of specialized suppliers, and an ecosystem that is growing consistently — says Flavio Figueiredo, managing director of BiS SiGMA South America, an event in the gaming and betting market.

The sector's economic potential is broadening discussions about the role of casinos and lotteries within the national economy. The country is already evaluating models that could generate jobs, attract investment, and strengthen tourism. Lotteries occupy a relevant place within the regulated environment, while debates about what the legalization of casinos could bring to Brazil are progressing in the legislature.

"Historically, the country has had a limited relationship with this type of activity, but the global scenario shows that, when well regulated, casinos and lotteries generate jobs, attract investment, and boost tourism. Brazil has all the conditions to position itself in this context," says Carlos Cardama, commercial director of the event.

These and other conversations will be at the heart of the debate at the next edition of BiS SiGMA, which takes place between April 6 and 9 in São Paulo (SP), and has become the main meeting point for the gaming and betting industry in Latin America. The fair brings together operators, affiliates, technology providers, investors and regulators in an environment focused on generating business and exchanging knowledge.

"The goal has always been to create an environment where the industry can meet, exchange experiences, and evolve together. The event's growth directly reflects the strength of the Latin American market," argued Alessandro Valente, chairman of BiS SiGMA South America.

It is no coincidence that the meeting is taking place in São Paulo, the main business hub in South America. The city has the infrastructure, connectivity, and ecosystem that fosters strategic meetings and the building of partnerships, reinforcing the region's potential within the sector.
