When a Caixa Lottery prize is not claimed, the money is transferred in full to the Student Financing Fund – FIES.
Every Brazilian who has ever played the lottery knows what it's like to pick up the ticket with the chosen numbers at the lottery shop and start dreaming about the good part: spending the prize. Quitting their job, moving into a mansion, buying an imported car, financial independence for the whole family… Some even dream of grabbing their credit card, with millions duly deposited into their account, and simply setting off to see the world, travel, spend, live…
In the last Mega da Virada lottery, the fortune that fueled the dreams of thousands of Brazilians reached 325 million reais. Only two lucky winners matched the winning numbers and had the privilege of splitting the prize into two parts of 162,6 million reais each.
One of the winners, from Aracaju (SE), withdrew the money from a Caixa bank branch in January, days after the draw. The other winner, believe it or not, has still not come forward to claim the prize and, if he doesn't go to the bank by next Wednesday, the 31st, he will lose the fortune, given that lottery prizes must be claimed by the winners within 90 days.
When the loan is not claimed, the money is transferred in full to the Student Financing Fund.
